Principles in Building the City Church Part 3

Topic: Principles in Building the City Church Part 3

Greetings:

   5.  You Need Men Activated By Tribulation
1 Chronicles 12:15:  These are they that went over Jordan in the first month, when it had overflown all his banks; and they put to flight all them of the valleys, both toward the east, and toward the west

In building the city church you need men who are activated by tribulation.  In the Scripture you see the Gadites saw that the time to attack was when Jordan was overflowing.  Most people would wait until the river was down but in the midst of tribulation these men saw the time to attack.  We need men and women of God who are active by tribulation.  When the time seems the most inopportune in the carnal they see the perfect opportune to go forward by the spirit.

1.    The Set Man Has to be Discerning
1 Chronicles 12:17:  And David went out to meet them, and answered and said unto them, If ye be come peaceably unto me to help me, mine heart shall be knit unto you:  but if ye be come to betray me to mine enemies, seeing there is no wrong in mine hands, the God of our fathers look thereon and rebuke it.

The set man is the God-appointed leader and here it is David and the Gadites have come to join David with the tribe of Benjamin and Judah.  In building the city church the set man must be discerning of the people who come to want to help.  We must ask the question:  Are you coming because you desire to help and my heart is knit or covenantly connected with yours or are you coming to betray me to mine enemies.   Understand, unfortunately you have believers who will become your enemies out of jealousy, envy and even out of rebuke.  The set man must discern those that come and make sure that they are covenantly connected so that they may help carry the vision of uniting the church within the city.  Jude said it best:

Jude 4: For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.

We must beware of the invasion of false doctrine and the spirits of Jezebel, Absolam and Korah. We will discuss these three spirits in a upcoming message in this series.

2.   People Must Be Able To Say “We are Yours”
Then the spirit came upon Amasai, who was chief of the captians, and he said, Thine are we, David, and on thy side, thou son of Jesse: peace, peace be unto thee and peace be to thine helpers; for thy God helpeth thee.  The David received them and made them captains of the band.

Now here is where many will get the strange eye.  When you look at the Scripture we see that Amasai who was the chief of the captains made the declaration that they recognize that God is with David.  Those who come desiring to help must recognize the grace upon the set man.

Next they must submit to the grace within that man.  They are not bowing to a man in the mind of slavery but because they recognize grace they desire to get connected and give of themselves to help see the vision to reality.

The problem many will have is pride.  Pride will prevent you from submitting to grace, especially when the one carrying the grace looks nothing like you expect them to.  Great example:  Saul was clearly older than David but the people recognize the grace within David and flocked over to his side.  Spiritual maturity and the anointing of the set man has nothing to do with natural age or “experience” in the church.  That has been the problem for so long.  Especially in the institutional church, so many gifted sons are being suppressed by the institution and system and many gifts are being held up by prideful and controlling leaders.

In addition, before someone is appointed to be a leader, the set man must back sure that this person is carrying the spirit of Amasai.  The name Amasai means burden-bearer.   These must be people who will carry the burden.

We will continue looking at the principles necessary in building the city church.  So far we have:

1. Recognize the David (Son carrying the Grace) within the House
2. Recognize the Helpers with a Pure Motive
3.  Recognize the Crossing Over Necessary to be Used for the Work
4. Recognize the Need for Men Fit for Battle
5. Need Men Activated By Tribulation
6. The Set Man has to be Discerning
7. Recognition of Grace / People Must Say: “We are Yours”
